Sustaining your Budget and the Environment Dave Long Protective Products has always been green! Awning manufacturers are pioneers in green thinking because awnings help to reduce the amount of energy used to cool your home or business—cooling your environment 8-15 degrees. On south-facing windows they reduce solar heat gain up to 65% and 77% on west-facing windows. They can reduce air conditioning costs by as much as 25%! At Dave Long Protective Products we recycle everything that we can. All of our scrap steel and aluminum is recycled. All cardboard packaging, fabric tubes, pop cans and plastics are collected and taken to the recycling center. Old fabrics and frames are recycled and even our new fabric scraps are saved and used to make shopping bags and totes that we sell or donate to non-profit organizations. We also use scrap fabric to make patches and repairs. The fabric from our old awnings is used as weed barriers under mulch, or for farm or automotive use. We send very little to the landfill and that helps us to keep our costs down and our impact on the environment to a minimum. Dave Long also instilled the value of doing business and buying locally. If we can’t buy locally then we buy MADE IN THE USA when ever possible. Yes, that costs a little more but it keeps folks here in the USA working and able to take care of their families—just like us. |
